bio

After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Middle Tennessee State University in 1999, Nashville-area mixed-media artist Michelle Grayum began exhibiting professionally in 2005. Working primarily in encaustic mixed media and pen and ink, Grayum has an aesthetic for sophisticated whimsy that often juxtaposes playful color fields with black-and-white or calming neutrals. Recognized by All the RageNashville Arts, and Art Galleries & Artists of the South for her work, Grayum also received a Visionary Award from JDRF, which she shares with her fellow artist and husband for their collaborative work. She enjoys exhibiting locally and in surrounding states while living and working with her husband and their son in Fairview, Tennessee.

“As a multi-passionate artist, I love mixing media and techniques. Whether painting with layers of hot wax or drawing with pen and ink, I draw upon a symbolic language of animals, flowers, sea, and sky to examine emotions, feelings, and other complexities to soothe and bring peace to my soul and as a permission slip for others to do the same.”
